BEST PLACE TO ORDER CUSTOM COWBOY BOOTS

Luskey’s | Fort Worth

Want a new pair of custom cowboy boots to wear to the first UT football game this fall? Well then, you better get a move-on! It takes a few months for custom boots to actually end up on your feet.

This year, we’re ordering ours at Luskey’s in Fort Worth. Luskey’s has been designing and making custom boots for more than 80 years. They can take your ranch brand or logo and put it on just about any pair of boots your heart desires. The only thing you need to worry about is ostrich versus alligator…

BEST PLACE TO SPOT BLUEBONNETS

“The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland.”
-Jack Maguire

The Texas Bluebonnet Trails

Burnet-Llano-Fredericksburg-Johnson City
Another great Bluebonnet Trail is found near Burnet, known as the Bluebonnet Capital of Texas. This trail takes you west out of Burnet on Hwy 29 to Llano, then south on Hwy16 to Fredericksburg. From Fredericksburg head east on Hwy 290 to Johnson City then back north to Burnet on Hwy 281. Peak viewing time is normally late March through early April.

Ennis
Ennis is known as the Official Bluebonnet City of Texas because it’s home to the Official Texas Bluebonnet Trail. Very official, indeed. The best time to visit the bluebonnet trail in Ennis is during the month of April, as the blooms reach their peak during the third week in April. The Ennis Garden Club publishes a map of the Bluebonnet Trail each year.

You can also take in great scenic views of bluebonnets in and around Kerrville and Boerne

BEST SPRING TRENDS

Pretty Pastels

Get in on the pastel trend by outfitting yourself in the palest shades of pistachio, peach, periwinkle and rose. All the better if the fabrics are light and airy with lots of draping and pleating detail. Remember, it’s a whisper, not a shout.

Soft Military

Utilitarian-chic is the name of the game this spring. In contrast to seasons past, this time we’re doing it in soft, luxe fabrics like silk to lend a feminine touch. Try a silk/cotton blend cargo pant or a chic dress with plenty of pockets and hardware detailing.

BEST SPRING DIY HOME PROJECT

Makeover Your Stair Risers!

Stair risers, an often overlooked feature of your home, are a great blank canvas for adding a little more style and flair to your interior!

We love the idea of covering them with decorative wallpaper or craft paper (as pictured above) or simply painting them a bold color. Try using different shades of the same color (use a paint strip at the hardware store as a guide) as the stairs get higher and higher.

How to use decorative paper to update your stair risers here:

DIRECTIONS:

  • Choose a decorative paper, cardstock or wallpaper.
  • Trim the paper to the width and length of your stair risers. You may need to piece together multiple pieces to achieve the desired size—don’t worry, just make sure to line up the pattern on the paper if there is one.
  • Take your measured paper to be laminated. You can also use clear contact paper and do it yourself.
  • Apply the laminated paper to your stair risers with an adhesive such as Mod Podge, which you can find at your local craft store.
  • Enjoy all the compliments your friends and family will inevitably give you when they come over!
