Known to many simply as “The Snow Cone Lady,” Mary Mathis has been single-handedly serving up refreshing summer treats to the City of Frisco for nearly 30 years. One of Frisco’s best-kept local secrets, The Snow Cone Lady opened for business in a small shack behind a gas station but has now moved to a proper space in a building on Elm Street.

As her notoriety grew, so did the lines that formed outside her window, so Mary decided to put up tents outside to shield her customers from the relentless Texas sun. But don’t even think about cutting in line—there are signs posted that expressly prohibit it. Her snow cones come in over 50 flavors, with a small ringing in at only $1.25 and a large costing only a quarter more—a bargain by anyone’s standards, but an especially impressive one if you know what it’s like to be in Frisco in August.

The Snow Cone Lady opens every April–September, with hours from 2 pm–10 pm Tuesday through Friday and 3 pm–10 pm on weekends. She’s usually closed on rainy days, but check her Facebook page before you go, just to be sure.
