The term ‘Shangri La’ refers to a place of beauty, peace and enlightenment. Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center sits on 252 acres in Orange, Texas (just outside of Beaumont) and features more than 300 plant species in five outdoor rooms and four sculpture rooms. Next to the botanical gardens is a bird blind, which allows visitors to observe nesting birds in Shangri La’s heronry. The Nature Center features a hands-on exhibit, a theater, a children’s garden, a cafe and the garden store.
Shangri La is the first project in Texas and only the 50th in the world to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Platinum certification for LEED-NC, verifying that the design and construction of Shangri La reaches the highest green building and performance measures, making it one of the most earth-friendly projects in the world.
