Abilene – Town & Country Drive
Abilene’s Town & Country Drive-In is open Friday – Sunday (weather permitting), and features two screens that each show two films back-to-back each night. The films are first-run (read: currently in theaters), and with two screens there are more options than at most drive-ins, so it’s worth it to go early and stay late. The first features start at approximately 7:30pm and the second features start right afterward.
Ennis – Galaxy Drive-In
Ennis’ Galaxy Drive-In is open 7 days a week (weather permitting). This drive-in has upgraded from 4 to 7 screens, giving them the ability to show a wide variety of double features. They have expanded to two snack bars and recently converted from film to digital to give the viewers the best drive-in experience. The box office and snack bar open at 6:00 PM and for advanced ticket sales, visit the Galaxy Drive-In website. Know before you go: Pets are welcome! Just be sure to keep them on a leash outside of you car and do not take them into the snack bar.
Fort Worth – Coyote Drive-In
Fort Worth’s Coyote Drive-In is open 7 days a week (weather permitting). This drive-in shows first-run double features on each of its 4 screens every night. The gates open at 6pm Monday – Thursday, and at 5:30pm Friday – Sunday. You can purchase tickets at the gate with cash or credit card, but it’s recommended to purchase them online in advance—you can redeem your tickets with the confirmation code, the card used to purchase or with a printout of the bar code page.
Fort Worth – Texas Motor Speedway “Big Hoss”
If you are looking for a really unique drive-in movie experience, be sure to head out to Texas Motor Speedway. Get ready for awesome movie showings on “Big Hoss,” the world’s largest, high-definition LED video board, with your friends and family in the infield. For more information and to answer any questions about these special events, visit Texas Motor Speedway online. Know before you go: Admission is $20 per car or $15 for advance purchase.
Lubbock – Stars & Stripes Drive-In
The Stars & Stripes Drive-In features three screens and is open year-round on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Each screen shows two first-run films back-to-back each evening. What really sets this drive-in apart is its onsite 50’s Café, featuring a full dinner menu of drive-in friendly food like burgers and boxed meals. The Chihuahua sandwich is the 50’s Café’s specialty, featuring two crispy corn tortillas topped with homemade chili, pimento cheese, shredded cabbage and onions with a jalapeno on the side. Sounds pretty amazing, considering the stale hot dogs you get at some movie theaters. Arrive early so the kids can play on the playground and you can snag a good spot. Know before you go: Dogs are allowed as long as they’re kept in the car or leashed at all times.
