August is finally here folks. Which means back-to-school is around the corner and summer vacation is near an end. So make the most of this August with these 14 events happening across Texas. Whether you’re a foodie chowing down at San Antonio’s Summer Restaurant Weeks or beating the heat at the legendary Frisco Rough Rider’s lazy river, August has never felt so cool.
August 4: Plano – Happy Hour Hike

August 4-7: Schulenburg – Schulenburg Festival
If you’re looking for a long weekend of live music, cook-offs, tournaments, a rodeo, and so much more, look no further! The Schulenburg Festival is a 4-day event that features a large beer garden, family-friendly events like the Cow Chip and Egg Toss, and even a parade with water balloon fights!
August 5: Lubbock – The First Friday Art Trail
Take a stroll through this self-guided public art event present by LHUCA. The First Friday at the Art Trail joins together artists and the community for live music, astounding exhibits and great food. This event is family friendly and free of charge!
July 29 – August 5: San Angelo – Wild West Fest
You still have time to head to Wild West Fest! Don’t miss your chance to see music performances by Turnpike Troubadours, Cameron Sacky Band and The Damn Quails. Free to the public, the Sports Next Level party offers the public an opportunity to enjoy an evening with friends, live music and drink specials!
July 28 – August 7: El Paso – Plaza Classic Film Festival
Lights, camera, action! The Plaza Classic Film Festival is known as the world’s largest film festival dedicated to classic cinema. We’re talking the movies you know and love, plus rare screenings, local features, and even shows by up-and-coming directors. Choose from different tickets and passes here.
Now – August 12: Grapevine – Bear Creek Short Line Excursion
All aboard! Bring the family on the Grapevine Bear Creek Short Line and help railroad detectives solve the mystery of who robbed the Grapevine Vintage Railroad! Starting in Downtown Grapevine, this 30 minute train ride is a great experience for the little ones.
Now – August 13: Amarillo – Texas Outdoor Musical
You still have time to attend this family-friendly show featuring fictional characters as they bring to life historic events of the Texas Panhandle settlers at Palo Duro Canyon State Park. August 13-27: San Antonio – Culinaria Restaurant Weeks
Dig in at your favorite restaurants for less during this bi-annual restaurant extravaganza! Summer Restaurant Weeks delivers two weeks of food charm with the best eateries in town. August 19-27: Denton – North Texas State Fair and Rodeo
Saddle up for the 94th annual Denton North Texas State Fair and Rodeo! Offering activities for all ages including nine nights of live concerts, horse & livestock shows, mutton bustin’, a carnival, cook-offs, food and games, there’s so much to love! Aug 24-25 & Aug 31-Sept 1: Stonewall – Becker Vineyards Grape Stomp
Celebrate the grape harvest season with the Becker Vineyards Grape Stomp! Grape stomping is the traditional way of separating juice from the grape skin (when making white wine) or separating red wine from the skins. Guests can stomp grapes for fun and even put their “stomp” prints on the backs of their souvenir tee shirt! This Texas August event is free and first come first serve, so make sure to plan accordingly!
August 25-28: Fredericksburg – Gillespie County Fair
Who doesn’t love a country fair? The 134th Gillespie County Fair is the oldest continuous county fair in Texas! Jam packed full of rides, arts and crafts, horse racing, delicious carnival eats, exhibits and shows, this event must be added to your calendar!
The fair also features live performances by Jack Hooker and the Outsiders, Lindsey Lane, and Jack Ingram. So what are you waiting for? Tickets are available online or at the door.
Now – August 31: Austin – Paramount Summer Classic Film Series
Calling all film fans, come celebrate 48 years of film series with tried-and-true classics like Dirty Dancing, Grease, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and so many more! Don’t worry, it’s all inside and air-conditioned, so grab your popcorn and escape from the Texas heat with your favorite flicks.
August 1 – August 31: Dallas – Dallas Arboretum Dollar Days
Soak up the final days of summer at the Dallas Arboretum with one of our favorite Texas events – August Dollar Days! Admire the history and horticulture while adventuring through the lush, 66-acre garden for only $3 for a general admission ticket! Pack a picnic or take advantage of August food and drink specials like Frozen Fridays, featuring cool frozen treats from local shops!
Tuesdays-Sundays: Frisco – RoughRiders Baseball Games
