Located just off of the Gulf of Mexico and bordering the Pineywoods of East Texas lies Beaumont, Texas. The city is a birding paradise situated right along the Central and Mississippi Flyways—two major migratory flyways. From October to March, you can spot over 30 different species of ducks and snow geese. Or stick around all year and catch species like the great and white snowy egrets and mottled ducks who call Beaumont home.

When in Beaumont, visit the 900 acres of wetlands at Cattail Marsh located inside Tyrrell Park. The hotspot features the Wetlands Education Center with a spectacular wrap-around porch and helpful materials for birding adventurers of every level.

Next, stop by High Island, a favorite for thousands of waterbirds migrating their way north. Throughout the island, you’ll find observation platforms, overlooks, and hiking trails.

Birding is available in Pearland year-round, but many species like warblers and hawks can be spotted seasonally during the migration times of fall and spring, while many sparrows and waterfowl call Pearland home during the winter.

One of Pearland’s newest parks, Shadow Creek Ranch Nature Trail, has plenty of open green space, natural vistas, and even an observation deck perfect for your next birding expedition. At John Hargrove Environmental Complex, you’ll discover Texas’ first floating municipal wetlands with a recreational nature trail and frequent sightings of waterfowl.

Right outside of Pearland is El Franco Lee Park, featuring 80 acres of protected wetlands. This spot has plenty of natural trails and an elevated boardwalk with a gazebo, perfect for bird watching.
