Sticking to Your Health Goals This New Year
The beginning of the New Year is always an easy time to start new habits and goals. Sticking to your health goals, on the other hand, can be pretty difficult. Dieting and exercising are two of the top resolutions people always commit to. Don’t stress – we thought about it, tried some different techniques and came up with a few tips to help you stick to your health goals this new year!
Sleep
People don’t always associate sleep with their new healthy lifestyle, but getting the right amount of sleep will give you more energy and start you off with a positive attitude to conquer any task!
Drink more water
Everyone knows the standard eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day rule, so get ahead of your thirst and drink water before you get thirsty. That might sound strange, but if you start keeping a bottle of water at your desk or next to your bed, and take drinks throughout the day, you’ll be sure to hit your water intake goals.
Exercise
This one seems like a no-brainer, right? Well good, because moving around and getting the appropriate amount of exercise is super important to staying healthy! However, don’t go crazy! If you’re not used to working out, start off slow with the beginner class. Worried about the costs associated with classes or memberships? No problem! A great go-to for workout guides is YouTube. Search for workouts you’re interested in and get your exercise done in the comfort of your home!
Eat healthier
This step can be intimidating to most, but don’t write this off! Eating healthy isn’t just about skipping hamburgers and eating kale 24/7, it’s also about being mindful! Let’s be honest, mindless eating is something we’re all guilty of, so instead of those potato chips, test out different nut blends or trail mixes! Next, try your hand at eating smaller meals throughout the day to help with overeating, another problem we all face! Finally check out healthy recipes on Pinterest and try cooking lighter foods!
Wash your hands
Yes, we said it. Wash your dang hands y’all! This may seem a tad obvious, but a gentle (or loud) reminder is always helpful. Staying healthy isn’t just about exercising and eating better, it’s also about avoiding germs and reducing the risk of getting sick. Washing your hands, or carrying hand sanitizer, is just about the easiest way to accomplish this.
The buddy system
Being held accountable can be one of the biggest motivators to stick to your goals! When you’re ready to start working towards something new, it’s never a bad idea to go into it with a buddy. So the next time you wake up, or get home from work and feel “too tired” to meet and stick to your health goal, let your buddy motivate you to get back on the horse!
