The City of Boerne is steeped in German tradition. The city’s founder, Ludwig Börne, encouraged young men to leave Germany in the 1840s and “travel to the new world,” Eventually, these young men chose to permanently settle in the area, renaming it Boerne. With that kind of history, it only makes sense that the world’s longest continuously-playing German band (outside of Germany, of course) is stationed in Boerne, Texas. That’s why the Boerne Village Band offers free summer concerts at the Main Plaza in Boerne. This evening concert series is aptly named Abendkonzerte, meaning evening concert. So if you’re planning on visiting Boerne during the summer months, bring your chairs, blankets and picnics, and be prepared to enjoy a relaxing evening of traditional German music, intermixed with the occasional chicken dance—it is Texas, after all.
