Down on the coast of Galveston sits one of the few spots in the world that combines the thrill of an amusement park with the joy and scenery of a pier. Pleasure Pier is one in a million and is sure to leave a lasting impression on your trip to the coast.
Fly over the other guests on the pier on the Gulf Glider, a classic swing carousel standing 22 feet tall. Soar over the Gulf of Mexico on the Texas Star Flyer, the swing with the best view in town at 230 feet above sea level. Plummet down to the ocean on the Iron Shark Rollercoaster’s 100-foot drop. Dive into Pirate’s Plunge, a log flume classic, and get your spin on in the adult and kid-friendly oversized twirling cups, the Texas Tea!
After you’ve had your fill of thrills and chills, grab a table and a drink, and escape from the Texas summer sun for a while. Dining on the pier is better than ever with so many different restaurants to choose from. Stop in the ever-popular Bubba Gump restaurant for fresh seafood, get a burger at Big Top Bites, a pizza at Slices & More, or some sweets at Carousel Court Sweets! Whether you’re looking for funnel cakes, turkey legs, margaritas, or beer, Pleasure Pier has it all right above the water.
If none of the places on the pier catch your eye, there are a number of options at hand. With so many shops nearby it’s hard to justify ever leaving the area without taking a peer into some of our editor’s favorite shopping spots. Stroll around The Strand Historic District in downtown Galveston or embody the area’s surfer spirit at Southern Spears Surf Shop. These shopping spots are a great way to end your Gulf Coast getaway.
