Poston Gardens is home to over one MILLION tulips! No, that wasn’t a typo. The tulips bloom across the 60-acre site farmed by tulip experts from Holland. Poston Gardens sits adjacent to Daymark Living, a resort-style community where residents with Intellectual and Developmental Delays (IDD) are empowered to live fulfilling lives and interact with the greater community around them.
John Poston, founder of Daymark Living, wants Poston Gardens to serve as an opportunity for residents to gain financial independence. John’s son, Michael, lives with IDD and inspired him to create Daymark Living. It was one of Michael’s classmates who influenced John’s idea of the potential benefits that Poston Gardens could offer to Daymark residents. The roles at Poston Gardens allow the residents to gain independence and job opportunities that may not otherwise be afforded to them.
At Poston Gardens, visitors can experience Dutch culture, take home tulips, meet the residents of Daymark Living who make it all happen, and most importantly, give back to the community! Tulips will be $3 each and $1 of every tulip sale helps fund rent at Daymark Living for residents on scholarships.
Poston Gardens will present its first Tulipalooza, complete with food trucks, a picnic area, playground and concert! It will take place at Getzendaner Park on March 30, 2019 from 12-5 p.m. The event will benefit the YMCA as well as those with intellectual disabilities. You can purchase your tickets here.
