Downtown San Angelo just got a lot more colorful with its newest art museum! This unconventional open-air, 24-hour gallery is organized by local nonprofit Art in Uncommon Places and is inspired by the groovy, eccentric styles of the Pop Art movement during the 1950s and 60s. Think Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans, but with a Texas twist.

Get some fresh air with a view and wander through the project’s murals from over 30 local artists. In keeping with the Pop Art tradition of taking everyday objects and aspects of life and turning them into commentary on society, keep your eyes peeled for moments from San Angelo’s rich history like the wool industry and the infamous Rodeo and Stock Show. Thanks to the work done by Art in Uncommon Places, there’s no charge for you to bring the family or take a solo trip to the gallery.

You may remember Art in Uncommon Places’ previous project revitalizing Paintbrush Alley, or other works by organization founders Julie Raymond and Joy Thomas like The River Corridor, Fish Out Of Water, and The Red Arroyo Art Trail. As the non-profit’s name suggests, The Pop Art Museum is the epitome of finding art in uncommon places. Located in what was formerly local bowling alley Star Lanes, the vacant building acts as the perfect canvas that pops (pun intended) against the backdrop of downtown San Angelo.

Plan your trip today by visiting The Pop Art Museum website, where you can learn more about the contributing artists, view snapshots of the artwork, and even purchase merchandise.
