There’s no more beautiful evidence of Texas’ rich Czech and German heritage than the four painted churches of Fayette County. The unassuming exteriors of these churches give way to lavishly decorated interiors you’d expect to find nestled in the streets of Europe. There are over 20 of these ornately decorated churches sprinkled across Texas, but you can visit four just outside of Round Top in an area known as Little Bohemia.
Start at the town of Ammannsville, where you’ll find St. John the Baptist Church, then head to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Dubinam followed by St. Mary’s Catholic Church in High Hill. Round out your expedition at St. Mary’s Parish in Praha and head back to Round Top in just under two hours.
