Spring Break Essentials
Spring Break Essentials
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been counting down the days until Spring Break since before the semester even started. Regardless of your plans, Spring Break is the beacon of light getting you through the midterms and papers that always seem the pile up in the first few weeks of March. Make the most of your hard-earned time off with some of our favorite Spring Break essentials.
If you’re going to Austin for SXSW…
If your Spring Break goal is to get all the culture and music you can soak up in just a few days, THIS is the place to be. Unfortunately, everyone else agrees. Which means there are crowds literally everywhere and crazy rideshare surge pricing (ugh). Try checking out Austin-B Cycles instead, Austin’s local bike share program. It’s cheap, faster than walking, and will make for a super cute photo-op of you and your friends riding bikes in your festival outfits.
If you’re going to the beach…
It’s the OG classic spring break trip and whether you’re going to South Padre or an all-inclusive resort in Mexico, you’re guaranteed to have a good time. Get one of these waterproof speakers to take with you so you can keep the party going the whole time you’re there. (Hey, you’ve got to maximize what little free time you get!)
If you’re staying on campus…
Okay, it happens. Either you can’t get off work or you’ve got the professor who thinks assigning a paper due the Monday after Spring Break is a “nice thing to do” (newsflash: it’s not). Luckily, you have Netflix. And even better, there are so many new shows to binge watch right now. Try Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: The Eighteenth Year, which is just one of the over one hundred (!!!) new shows coming to Netflix in March.
If you’re going on a mission trip…
Whether it’s to El Salvador to teach English or down to Houston to help with hurricane relief, going on a mission trip can be a great way to spend Spring Break and give back. Take a journal like this one with you so you can record all the awesome experiences you might not capture in pictures.
If you’re going to the city…
A girls’ weekend to Nashville or New Orleans is kind of the new “it” vacation, which makes it perfect for Spring Break. If your plans include swanky bars and neon lights, it probably also means trying to pack as many outfits as possible without having to check a bag at the airport. Solution: get one of these cute (and expanding!) carry-on bags to help out.
