Summer is drawing to a close and we’re easing into fall here in Texas. That means (hopefully) cooler days ahead! Whether you’re excited for fairs and festivals, or want to find some treasures at local shops and markets, we’ve rounded up 23 of the best events happening in Texas this September that will be sure to keep you busy all month long!

Fort Worth Giddy Up and Go (September 2-5)
Grab your hat and your cowboy boots! Giddy Up and Go on Labor Day weekend in Fort Worth is something you don’t want to miss. Three rodeos, five music performances, and lawn parties with games and discounted drinks! What could be better? 

Boerne Kendall County Fair (September 2-4)
Spend a weekend in Boerne at The Kendall County Fair with a carnival, rodeo and livestock show, as well as Homestead Heritage Exhibits. This Hill Country tradition is an integral part of the community, being a part of the Kendall County Fair Association for 100 years!

Fredericksburg Long Labor Day Weekend (September 2-5)
Labor Day weekend is right around the corner, and Fredericksburg has your long weekend already planned out! Take advantage of what the Texas Hill Country has to offer with four days of events and activities like the First Friday Art Walk, the best brunch spots, the grape harvest festival, winery tours, and so many more attractions to fit your type of visit this September. 

Austin – City Wide Garage Sale (September 10-11)

Grapevine – GrapeFest (September 15-18)
Sip on and celebrate your favorite wines at the 36th annual GrapeFest! Join us, along with every wine lover in the great state of Texas for the largest wine festival in the Southwest. Experience classic wine tastings, hit the green at the GrapeFest Golf Classic, show off your dance moves with live music and entertainment and of course, stomp some grapes! Bring the whole family and all of your friends for a wine-derful time. 

Allen Home & Garden Show (September 16-18)
Are you in the market for new products and services for your home improvement, such as builders, contractors, building materials, pools, landscape displays, kitchenware, home accessories, or even all of the above? The Home & Garden Show is here for you! With many different exhibits demonstrating products that will help you solve your home and garden dilemmas, there is no problem too big and no service too complicated.

Denton – Denton Blues Festival (September 16-18)
Since 1998, this family-friendly festival has been providing the best blues acts around in Denton. See performances by Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers and Vanessa Collier. This free event has everything you need for a fun-filled weekend like great food, local vendors, arts and crafts and of course, the incredible blues music!

Waxahachie Junk in the Trunk (September 17)
Junk in the Trunk returns to the Waxahachie square and it’s one of our favorite vintage markets. Shop out of the trunk of vendor’s cars for new treasures, and continue your hunt at the city’s countless antique stores including favorites like Old Town Village Antiques and Atelier Antiques!

Pearland – Latin Festival (September 17)
All ages are welcome at the Latin Festival in Pearland presented by the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. From 10am to 8pm you can enjoy food vendors, traditional dance and live music!

San Angelo Annual LilyFest (September 17)
Experience the largest lily display of any U.S. botanical garden at the San Angelo Annual Lilyfest presented by The International Water Lily Collection. Great for all ages, come enjoy great food and live music, and take a guided tour of the water lillies at Civic League Park!

Austin Pecan Street Festival (September 17-18)
Pe-CAN you believe that one of the largest and longest running art, crafts and music festivals is back?! The Pecan Street Festival in Austin is hosted by the Pecan Street Association, a non-profit organization that donates its proceeds to preserving historic 6th street. Grab a bite from over 30 food trucks, listen to tunes from nearly 50 musical performers and explore artwork all while helping give back to the Austin community.

El Paso – El Paso Space Festival (September 17-24)
Reach for the stars! Returning this Fall to celebrate innovations in space exploration is the El Paso Space Festival! This year’s festival will feature hands-on interactive and simulation experiences explaining the future of lunar and space exploration. Check out the Space and Lunar Extravaganza main event, Si-Fi movie night, star gazing party, and the rocket launch day! This week-long event is out of this world and great for the whole family!

Dallas  – Autumn at the Arboretum (September 17 – October 31)
Autumn at the Arboretum exceeds every dream we could ever have of fall scenery. With 100,000 pumpkins, gourds and squash, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported into the scenes of a movie, conveniently located in Dallas. The theme this year is ’A Fall Fairy Tale”, featuring the return of Cinderella’s carriage and other themed houses that make up the pumpkin village. 

Frisco  Market at The Star x Flea Style (September 21)

Fort Worth – Oktoberfest (September 22-24)
Fort Worth’s Oktoberfest is a 3-day celebration of German culture with live performances, a biergarten, and even a 5k Run, urban bike ride, and carnival rides and games. Make sure to buy your tickets in advance and don’t forget your lederhosen!

Plano Plano Balloon Festival & Run (September 22-25)
Come celebrate 40+ years of Ballooning in Plano at the Plano Balloon Festival and Run! This four-day event offers entertainment, activities for the kids, sky-divers, firework shows, food options galore and of course… hundreds of colorful hot air balloons! This can’t-miss annual event in North Texas is a celebration of all things balloons that help give back to the community and local non-profits. Read more info here!

McKinney – Oktoberfest (September 23-25)

Tyler East Texas State Fair (September 23 – October 2)
Round up your crew and head to Tyler for The East Texas State Fair! Organized for charitable and educational purposes, the fair is committed to agricultural heritage, families and service to the community. Get ready for fair favorite food, thrilling rides, livestock shows, and so many new attractions and exhibits! Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. Plano – Shop Local Sundays (September 25)
Let’s Shop Local together! Every month, Legacy Hall is hosting Local Sundays that are dedicated to supporting small businesses, and September highlights Hispanic Heritage vendors. 

Waco  – Cultural Arts Festival (September 30 – October 2)
Free to the public, this art festival features 50 artists and over 300 performers over the span of three days. Partake in hands-on activities for all ages, and experience live music, visual art experiences, artist booths, and so much more at Indian Spring Park and the Waco Convention Center. 

Fredericksburg  – Oktoberfest (September 30 – October 2)
Celebrate even more German Heritage in the Polka Capital of Texas at Oktoberfest! Buckle up for a weekend full of music, yodeling contests, shopping, 50 varieties of beer, Texas Wine Country selection and great food at this annual Fredericksburg festival.

Dallas State Fair of Texas (September 30 – October 23)
Drum roll please… It’s everyone’s favorite time of year! The State Fair of Texas is bigger and better than ever! 24 consecutive days of your favorite fried foods, exhibits, rides, petting zoos, shops, and so much more. Snap a pic with Big Tex, catch the Starlight Parade, chow down on a corny dog, or shop from the most unique vendors. There is so much to do, you’ll need a full day (maybe 2 or 3) to do it all! Plano Small Business Saturdays (Every Saturday)
