Nestled in the Texas Hill Country, Downtown Fredericksburg is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Herbs, wine, lavender and wildflowers are all big businesses in Fredericksburg. Visitors come from all over the country to tour vineyards and sit on porches overlooking the beautiful scenery. We’re glad you’ve put Fredericksburg on your to-do list! Read on for our tips on where to stay, eat, shop and more!
Where to Stay
Hoffman Haus
You’ll find several friendly and convenient reservation services that will set you up with the ideal accommodations for you and your family – from traditional lodging to B&B reservations. Our favorite services are 1st Class Lodging Reservation Service, Fredericksburg Guest House Reservations, Gastehaus Schmidt Reservation Service and Main Street B&B Reservation Service!
Just a block from downtown is our favorite B&B, Hoffman Haus. The accommodations offered at this highly esteemed bed and breakfast include a compound of old and new buildings, each with their own cozy style. The best part is the complimentary gourmet breakfast that is delivered to your door each morning at 9 o’clock sharp!
Where to Shop
Carol Hicks Bolton Antiques
Inside a 14,000 square foot warehouse lies Carol Hicks Bolton Antiques. This one-of-a-kind store will inspire you to design your dream home! This shop carries everything you need to achieve a perfect balance of rustic and refined. Within one year of being open, they earned a spot on our “Best Store List”. Check it out and you’ll quickly see why we awarded them. Giving us even more to explore, you’ll find two extensions of this shop! Gus’s Antiques, which features many selections of handmade and local items, and Room No. 5., which is dedicated to crisp, clean and white aesthetics. All three of the shops are sure to inspire your next home makeover, and are now open for in-person shopping from 10am – 5:30pm, Monday – Saturday.
Vaudeville
Step into Vaudeville and feel like you’re stepping into a movie. This classic western-style building’s offerings are endless: a beautiful urban home décor and giftware shop, a showroom, dining at a gourmet restaurant, a wine club and events for every season. In-person dining and shopping are now welcome!
Behind its wooden doors are treasures just waiting to be taken home at FarmHaus Antiques. This eclectic store houses French antiques as well as eye-catching textiles, wall décor and seasonal decorations. Be sure to stop by Wednesday – Saturday from 11am – 5pm to shop their unique inventory!
Located in an abandoned laundromat is Blackchalk Home and Laundry. From hand painted Turkish dishes and vintage rugs, to a golden crushed velvet bohemian couch, this is the place to find that statement piece that none of your friends have. This store is open on Monday – Saturday from 10am – 5pm!
Haberdashery Boutique
Haberdashery Boutique is a vintage gem that helps you express your creativity in fashion with designs from all over the world. The 1940s newspaper on the walls helps give this historic limestone building a charming feel. It’s really a beautiful store and the obscure design is worth seeing while you are in Fredericksburg, so stop by for in-store shopping! The pieces are artsy, interesting and different from your average vintage boutique finds.
Magnolia Pearl
Be transported to another age when you step into Magnolia Pearl! More than just a shop, it’s an entire experience inside a renovated barn. The shabby chic interior and detailed handcrafted clothing will astound you. We were inspired by the store’s originality and theatrical presentation. We highly suggest you pay this shop a visit before heading out of Fredericksburg.
Where to Eat
Otto’s
Sipping cocktails on a patio is always a great way to spend the afternoon. Otto’s German Bistro is our favorite German eatery in Fredericksburg. They offer locally sourced ingredients and are a farm-to-table restaurant. We highly recommend asking your waiter what cocktail or wine would pair best with your meal. Be sure to make a reservation to ensure you get to experience the German heritage Fredericksburg is known for!
Sunset Grill is a great place to get a “big ass sandwich.” Literally, that’s their signature special. They have great guacamole, burgers, omelets and amazing French toast. We suggest ordering their huevos rancheros or country biscuit and sausage gravy. We can’t wait to go back!
What To Do
The Museum of the Pacific War
The National Museum of the Pacific War honors those who served our country with humility and integrity in World War II. It has a wonderful collection curated in a modern-style building in the hometown of Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. There is a lot to see, read, watch and experience, so give yourself some time to get through it all. Purchase your tickets HERE ahead of time to lock down one of their guided walk-throughs, open to groups of 9, at 11:30am and 2pm.
Experience the Texas Hill Country and its beautiful wildflowers with a glass of wine in hand. With over 50 vineyards and wineries in the area, you’ll be sure to find a wine you can’t get enough of. Give your favorite winery a call for bottle sales and pick-up options!
